Eastern Elk once roamed the Southern Appalachian M Eastern Elk once roamed the Southern Appalachian Mountains, but were eliminated from the region by over-hunting and loss of habitat. The last elk in North Carolina was believed to have been killed in the late 1700’s.
The Eastern Elk is now extinct, but in 2001/2002, 52 Manitoban Elk were reintroduced to the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Since then, the elk population has grown, and experts are cautiously optimistic about their prosperity.

The girls and women of Myanmar commonly wear a yellowish-white paste on their faces called Thanaka. It is made from grinding the bark or wood of a thanaka tree with a small amount of water. It is then applied to the face in simple designs. Worn for cosmetic purposes, the paste also gives a cooling sensation to the skin and acts as an effective sunscreen. #themoreyouknow🌈
